The six departments within the Faculty of Business and Globalisation and the four research labs research and teach in the following areas: business and management sciences, law, international relations, migration, globalisation, e-governance in business and administration, knowledge and communication management as well as European policy and the theory of democracy.

Department for E-Governance and Administration

The Department for e-Governance and Administration aims to provide continuing education and research in e-governance, business information technology, electronically-supported value added chains as well as sustainable security management solutions as part of its Center for Infrastructure Security.

Department for European Policy and the Study of Democracy

The Department for European Policy and Democracy Studies (DED) deals with current issues in European policy and the study of democracy from a political science and sociological perspective. The team members are concerned with researching the complex interplay of political institutions and actors in the EU multi-level system, as well as analyzing the implications of this system on European societies. The department’s research generates knowledge and expertise that supports processes of democracy development and the transformation of political systems in the European context.

Department for Migration and Globalisation

The Department for Migration and Globalisation specialises in researching and teaching various aspects of mobility in a globalised world, and hence one of the most burning issues in modern social development. Teaching and research focuses on the many causes of migration and the effects of migration on both the home and host societies – for example in the areas of education, work, health and housing – as well as religion, security, human rights and intercultural communication.

Department for Legal Studies and International Relations

The Department for Legal Studies and International Relations centers its teaching and research on practically relevant business law topics and their international dimension. Application-oriented basic research provides the foundation for the department‘s large variety of courses. Teaching and research focus on business and company law, intangible goods and competition law, data protection law, technology law, bank and equity market law, insurance law, medical law, sport law as well as international business law.

Department for Management and Economics

The Department for Management and Economics combines economic research and modern, academic management teaching with a solid practical approach, to address economic and social challenges from both local and global perspectives. Courses focus on general management, business administration & controlling, human resource management, marketing & international business, aviation, finance as well as sustainability and business ethics.

Department for Knowledge and Communication Management

The Department for Knowledge and Communication Management (WuK) devotes its research and teaching to understanding, solving and communicating current organizational and societal challenges. For this, the Department combines the cognition, information and communication science disciplines. Research and teaching focus - among other things - on knowledge management, visualization and innovation, as well as journalism, public relations and political communication.
